MITCHELLS CAPTURE SCOTCH DOUBLES LEAGUE

William and Linda Mitchell fired a 575 series to capture the Scotch doubles at the Franklin Bowl last week. Ed and Sue Martin rolled a 561 to place second.

The summer leagues finished their season, and many teams are preparing for the fall.

In the Sunday Nite Mixed, the Bombers and Faulty Delivery wound up in a first place tie. However, Sonny Spratley and Donald Norvell of Bombers defeated Jean Everett and Bobby Cornwell of Faulty Delivery in a three-game roll off.

Sonny Blizzard and Max Jenkins capture top spot in the Club 55 senior leagues, which is held on Tuesday mornings. And what made the title so special was that Jenkins had never bowled in league competition before.

``I can't believe it,'' he said. ``I had never bowled before and I didn't have shoes, a ball or anything.

``With a larger fall league, I don't know if we can do it again or not. But we'll try.''

The Gamblers team of Ann Bennett and Joel Bennett, Lynn and Don Blythe won the Mixed Nuts championship.

Rude Awakening and the Cowboys tied for first in the Wednesday Mixed league, and in a three-game roll off, the Cowboys grabbed the crown.

Bowling for the Cowboys were Lynn Banks, Paul Donadio, Ed Velin and Cornwell. On the Rude Awakening squad were Milton Lawrence, Ray Bacon, Lina and Donald Norvell.

Ningas R Us took the Family Ties league to the limit before taking the title. On the team were David Gray, John and Alan Glasgow.

``Bowling in an adult/child league is a great way to boost family bonding,'' Alan Glasgow said.

``There are many kids who beat their parents. This doesn't help the parents' ego much, but it does wonders for the kids' self esteem.''

The Four Posts team, consisting of Jennie Whitley, Beth Blythe, Clara Foster and Martha Cleaton, conquered the Ladies Nite Out league. And Andy Duck, Dave Grice, Mack Carpenter, Will Sledge, Robbie Withers and Jerry Robertson won the Thursday Men's loop.

Jim Rogers, Pete Gwaltney, Donna Little and Steve Little joined together to form the Swamp Rats which grabbed the Summer Church league honors. Jason Holloman and John Glasgow took first place in the Thunderbolts league.

High game and high series for the final week were:

Sunday Nite Mixed: Ann Saunders, 162 game and 422 series; Herman Hill, 243 game and George Hill, 575 series.

Club 55: Olivia Williams, 165; Fannie Bowers, 435; Alexander Blizzard, 211 and 601.

Mixed Nuts: Cindy Smith, 204 and 525; Joel Bennett, 223; Billy Allmond, 601.

IN THE SUFFOLK Tuesday night ladies bowling league, Margie Bleiler had a high game of 131 and a high set of 346 as she and her Morris and Piland teammates blanked the Mike Duman team, 4-0.

Others with 300 game sets were Mary Branchaud and Anita Joyce, 324; Jeannie Brinkley and Joyce Griggs, 311; Connie Insley, 307, and Jenny Holloman, 305.
