Running back Dwayne Denson scored on a one-yard plunge with 9:49 left in the game to lift the Charlotte Blast over the Tidewater Sharks, 10-3, in a Mason-Dixon Football League game Saturday night at CEL Field.
The Sharks (3-2) were held to just 84 yards total offense.
The Blast (3-1) scored first on a 23-yard field goal by James Lampkin midway through the first quarter.
The Sharks took the ensuing kickoff to midfield and then drove to the Blast's 21-yard line, where the drive stalled. The Sharks' Jay Kegley kicked a 38-yard field goal to tie the score.
Neither team could do much offensively until the Blast recovered a Sharks' fumble at the Sharks 10 with less than 11 minutes to go in the game.
Two plays later, Denson blasted up the middle for the go ahead touchdown.
The Sharks had three more chances, but were forced to punt and were intercepted twice in the final eight minutes of the game.
Kevin Blanding led the Sharks with 65 yards on 14 carries.
`` We should have won the football game, but we just made too many mistakes,'' Sharks coach Red Stickney said.
`` We will just have to regroup this week and put this game behind us,'' Stickney said.
The Sharks' next game is against the Fredricksburg (Va.) Generals in Fredricksburg Saturday night at 7. by CNB
