LADY MONARCHS TOP NO. 2 NORTHWESTERN

After being shutout by No. 1 North Carolina on Saturday, Old Dominion rebounded to upset No. 2 Northwestern, 3-0, Sunday at Foreman Field.

The No. 8 Monarchs (4-2) began the scoring 10:55 into the game and continued the spree every ten minutes until the end of the first half.

Alaina Hunt put ODU on the board off a corner, as she blasted a rocket staight into the back of the net past keeper Donna Barg.

Sam Salvia scored on a penalty stroke at the 20-minute mark when she flicked the ball over and right ofBarg. Karen Neiss capped the scoring as she launched her own rebound at the 30:20 mark.

``We're one of the few teams who'll put themselves on the line playing one and two back to back,'' ODU coach Beth Anders said. ``The kids decided they wanted it.''
