PERCY C. STRICKLAND

Percy Carlton Strickland, 70, of the 1000 block of Old Somerton Road, a retired carpenter, died Sept. 19, 1994, in Hillhaven-Nansemond Nursing Center.

Mr. Strickland had been a self-employed contractor. He was born in Wayne County, N.C., son of the late Maggie Griffith Strickland and William E. Strickland Sr. He attended Southside Baptist Church in Suffolk and was a member of the Suffolk Moose Lodge (NU)141.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Britt Strickland; three daughters, Vicki S. Thacker and LaRoyce S. Nixon, both of Suffolk, and Betty T. Strickland of Asheville, N.C.; two sons, Don C. Strickland Sr. and Carlton B. Strickland Sr., both of Suffolk; a sister, Christine S. Saunders of Newport News; two brothers, Ralph Strickland of Mount Olive, N.C. and William E. Strickland Jr. of Suffolk; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a grandson, Carl E. Strickland.

A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Sidney F. Harrell Funeral Home, Suffolk, by the Rev. R. Stewart McCarter and Jacob D. Thacker. Burial will be in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. today and other times at the home of David and Vicki Thacker, 110 Northbrooke Ave., Suffolk, and suggests that memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 101 W. Plume St., Norfolk, Va., 23510 or to the American Heart Association, 360 Southport Circle, Suite 104, Virginia Beach, Va., 23452.
