CORNELL C. GILBERT SR.

Cornell Chester Gilbert Sr., 79, formerly of Norfolk, died Sept. 18, 1994, in Richmond.

Mr. Gilbert was the son of the late Nathaniel T. and Fannie Murden Gilbert. He was retired from Texaco Inc., where he was employed for 40 years.

In his younger years he played semi-pro baseball and was a lifetime sports enthusiast. At the time of his death, he was a member of Derbyshire Baptist Church in Richmond and in lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the building fund of the church, 8800 Derbyshire Road, Richmond, Va. 23229.

Mr. Gilbert is survived by his wife, Virginia Dozier Gilbert; a daughter, Carol G. Turner; two sons, C. Chester Gilbert Jr. and Wilson T. Gilbert; six grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at Trinity Baptist Church, Ballentine Boulevard, Norfolk, on Saturday, Sept. 24, at 2 p.m.
