Norfolk Southern and Conrail on Monday began working together to speed up shipments of new vehicles to dealers. The effort covers vehicles bound for the Northeast from eight assembly plants in the Midwest and the South. Beginning Monday, Norfolk-based Norfolk Southern began shipping vehicles to a Conrail yard in Cleveland instead of delivering them to Conrail at three locations. In Cleveland, automobiles are stacked onto trucks, which bring them to the dealerships. Norfolk Southern also said it will consolidate the number of eastbound trains carrying automobiles from the South. by CNB
