A school bus carrying 41 pupils crashed Monday morning after the driver lost control of the vehicle, sending 23 children and the driver to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
The crash occurred after the right wheels of the bus went off the road into a ditch, Chesterfield County spokesman Don Kappel said. When the driver, Lynn Courts, tried to steer the bus back onto the asphalt road, the vehicle went across the opposite lane of traffic and hit a tree.
No other vehicles were involved, Kappel said. Courts, a substitute driver, was taking the children to Jacobs Road Elementary School in Chesterfield.
