When it comes to school attendance records, Carla Duck, the information systems technician for the Isle of Wight school system, is the person to ask.
One of her tasks is to keep track of school attendance for the seven public schools in Isle of Wight County.
And to do that, she receives monthly reports from each school that are proofed and verified with records that are kept in the school's computer system, she said.
In addition to keeping attendance records, Duck also makes sure each child attending Isle of Wight County schools has a ride to school each day if needed.
With the opening of the new Windsor Middle School, she said, there are 40 bus routes that pick up students on county roads each day.
In her off time, Duck, 29, said she likes to ``duck'' into antique shops she finds along country roads. Her favorite kind of collectible is glassware.
But the best buy she ever got was at a garage sale, not an antique shop. She paid 15 cents for a pink antique candy dish that she later learned was valued at $150.
``But once I get this stuff, I don't get rid of it,'' she said. ``I keep it.''
