E. BRUTON PEACOCK

E. Bruton Peacock, 81, of Virginia Beach, died Sept. 20, 1994 in his residence.

Mr. Peacock grew up in Fremont, N.C., and graduated from the University of North Carolina in 1936. Immediately following his graduation, he joined the Smith-Douglass Fertilizer Company where he worked in sales and sales management until his retirement in 1975 at age 62.

In 1939 he married Jessiebeth Whitlock of Wilmington, N.C. Over the years they lived in Norfolk, Wilson, Suffolk, Fremont, Kinston and Wilmington. In 1962 they moved to Virginia Beach where they lived until Mrs. Peacock's death in November 1983. Mr. Peacock continued to reside at their home in Virginia Beach until his death.

Beyond his devotion to family, Mr. Peacock was an avid gardener, a Tar Heel fan, member of the Norfolk Sports Club, a former Rotarian, and Deacon in the Baptist Church.

He is survived by a daughter, Beth Peacock of Washington, D.C.; a son, Edwin B. Peacock Jr. of Charlotte, N.C.; two brothers, Ben A. Peacock of Fremont, N.C. and Douglas R. Peacock of Raleigh, N.C.; and two grandchildren, Edwin B. Peacock III of McLean, Va. and David T. Peacock of Charlotte, N.C.

A church service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday in Kings Grant Baptist Church by the Rev. Jerry Holcomb. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Oleander Memorial Gardens in Wilmington, N.C. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial gifts to the American Heart Association or to the American Cancer Society. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel, is handling the local arrangements. Andrews Mortuary in Wilmington, N.C., will be handling the graveside services.
