Alta Hatfield Vaughan, 85, of Line Pine Road, died Sept. 20, 1994.
Mrs. Vaughan was a lifelong resident of Southampton County and was a member of Black Creek Baptist Church. She was the daughter of the late James Edward and Bertha Councill Hatfield.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William W. Vaughan, four daughters, Margaret Vaughan, Ann Lamm, Charlotte Foster and Becky Vaughan, and two sons, William W. Vaughan Jr. and Council D. Vaughan.
Survivors include five daughters, Elizabeth V. Johnson of Franklin, Carolyn V. Porter of Newsoms, Esther V. Simms of Lynchburg, Kathryn V. Lamm of Franklin and Patricia V. Bland of Mechanicsville; two sons, George E. Vaughan and Joseph E. Vaughan, both of Franklin; a sister, Vaughan H. Bradshaw and two brothers, Joseph Alvin Hatfield and James E. Hatfield Jr., all of Franklin; 29 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Black Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Wayne Underwood and the Rev. Kenneth Williams officiating. Burial will be in Southampton Memorial Park. Visitation will be at Wright Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. today and at other times at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Lamm, 179 Bobwhite Lane, Franklin. Memorial donations may be made to Black Creek Baptist Church or to a favorite charity.
