Undiluted weed killer sprayed on a yard at 20th St. and Baltic Avenue on Tuesday evening sent two neighborhood residents to a local hospital, fire officials said.
The 500 block of 20th St. was blocked off for a number of hours by fire and hazardous-material teams as a foam blanket was placed on the yard to stop the fumes from spreading further.
The product sprayed on the yard, Weed Away, is supposed to be diluted at 2 tablespoons per 5 gallons of water, said Battalion Chief Chase Sargent.
``The weed killer was supposed to be diluted before use, but the person didn't read the directions,'' Sargent said.
The two women who inhaled the weed killer were treated at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital and released, fire officials said. by CNB
