The application period for the Dare County Tourism Assistance Grant Program (TAG) will open Oct. 1 and run through the end of the month.
The TAG program is designed to provide assistance to Dare County organizations and agencies that stage projects and events that will attract visitors to Dare County during the autumn, winter or spring seasons.
The purpose of the grant program is to assist Dare County organizations and agencies in the enhancement, promotion and marketing of tourism and culturally related events and activities.
Applications and forms will be available during October at the Dare County Tourist Bureau in Manteo and at the Aycock Brown Welcome Center in Kitty Hawk.
Under the program, organizations are reimbursed at the completion of the project. Full details on accountability of the funds are included in the grant application.
Applications are judged on a project's potential to attract visitors to Dare County, the originality and need for special assistance and prospects for future development.
The bureau receives its funding through tax dollars generated by Dare County's occupancy and meals taxes. TAG is designed for those projects which will generate additional tourism revenue for the local economy, with emphasis on spring and fall seasons.
The applications are reviewed by the Tourist Bureau's Advertising and Promotions Committee, which makes recommendations to the full 13-member board for approval.
