AUTUMN MEANS pumpkins in the market, children in school and a new selection of food shows on television.
PBS will launch the season with ``Pennsylvania Diners and Other Roadside Restaurants,'' at 9 p.m. Oct. 5.
This 1-hour special, produced by WQED in Pittsburgh, takes a look at 18 diners. Among them is Downington Diner, where Steve McQueen battled ``The Blob'' in the classic 1958 horror movie.
Locally, the show will air on WHRO and WUND.

``Carlo Cooks Italian'' will air weekdays at 2:30 and 4:30 p.m. beginning Oct. 31.
The Learning Channel also will air ``The Burger Meister'' with Marcel Desaulniers, co-owner and executive chef of the Trellis Restaurant in Williamsburg.
