Annette Carr and Ashleigh Stevens will be part of the Citrus Bowl halftime entertainment if . . .
``We each have to raise $650 plus air fare,'' Annette says.
The 14-year-old Nansemond-Suffolk Academy sophomores, members of the Marching Band's Flag Corps, attended a band camp at James Madison University in July, where they learned some of the routines that will be used at the Citrus Bowl football game in Orlando, Fla., on Jan. 2.
``We learned different moves with the flag,'' Annette said. ``We learned several routines.''
Once they get to Orlando, they will learn the halftime routine that ties in with the theme, ``the blues.''
Annette and Ashleigh will join about 200 other girls adept at flag routines for a full-blown version of ``Jailhouse Rock.''
Part of the halftime show will be televised on ABC.
Before all that comes about, there is the business of raising the money.
``I'll probably cut grass, baby-sit, work around the house and answer phones for my dad's business,'' said Ashleigh, whose parents are Linda and Carl Stevens of Ashforth Way in Chesapeake.
