Ruth Mae Gaines of the 1500 block of Hoover Ave., a cook, died Sept. 18, 1994, in Sentara Leigh Hospital, Norfolk.
Mrs. Gaines was born in Cheraw, S.C., and was employed with Chesapeake General Hospital for 16 years. She was a member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, Berkley, Norfolk, and was a member of the Inspirational Choir and vice president of the Floral Club.
Survivors include her husband, Raymond Gaines; six daughters, Gilda Adcock of Chesapeake, Mamie Salaam of Norfolk, Huerta L. Turrentine of Oxon Hill, Md., Glenda Daye and Charlene Sutton of Durham, N.C., and Robin Gaines of Davidson, N.C.; a son, Raymond G. Gaines of Chesapeake; three sisters, Mary J. Smith of Fuquay Varina, N.C., Ella Morgan and Elizabeth Shire of Raleigh, N.C.; 19 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two sons-in-law, Leroy Turrentine of Oxon Hill, Md., and Terry Daye of Durham, N.C.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday in Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, Berkley, Norfolk, by the Rev. Dr. I. Joseph Williams. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Norfolk. Fitchett Funeral Home is handling arrangements. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
