James A. ``J.J.'' Johnson Jr., 23, of the 4100 block of S. Plaza Trail, died Sept. 20, 1994 in Virginia Beach General Hospital.
Mr. Johnson was born in Norfolk. He was a student at Norfolk State University and a 1989 graduate of Green Run High School. He was a member of St. John AME Church, Bute Street, and the Sun Wheeler Basketball Team, Virginia Beach. He was a former sportscaster for the Norfolk State University Women's Basketball Team.
Survivors include his mother, Jacquelyn Keeling Johnson Rhodes; a stepsister, Eleesa A. James; a stepbrother, Thad Rhodes 3rd; and his stepfather, Thad Rhodes Jr., all of Virginia Beach; an aunt, Ann E. Keeling of Cincinnati, Ohio; two great-aunts; and a host of other relatives. He was preceded in death by his father, James A. Johnson Sr.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in St. John AME Church, 545 Bute St., Norfolk, by the Rev. I.W. Knight. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. The body will be placed in church at 11 a.m. Saturday. The family will assemble at 4116 S. Plaza Trail, Virginia Beach. Hale Funeral Home, Norfolk, is handling arrangements. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
