T. ERIE HASTE SR.

Thomas Erie Haste, Sr., 81, of 1000 W. Main Street, Elizabeth City, died Friday evening, September 23, 1994, in Albemarle Hospital.

A native of Chowan County and former resident of Edenton, he had lived in Elizabeth City for 31 years. He had been a businessman in northeastern North Carolina all of his adult life until his retirement at age 62. He was the retired owner/operator of City Marina in Elizabeth City and Hertford Hardware Company in Hertford. Haste was a member of First Baptist Church in Elizabeth City and a former member of Edenton Baptist Church. He was a member of the Lion's Club and International Order of Red Men.

Haste was the son of the late Miles and Betty Harrell Haste.

Survivors include his wife, Nezzie Perry Haste, with whom he had been happily married for 61 years; two daughters, Mrs. Chrystal Towe of Hertford and Mrs. Faye Lewis of Anaheim, Calif.; a son, T. Erie Haste, Jr. of Hertford; a sister, Bessie H. McKee of Raleigh; 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. in First Baptist Church, Elizabeth City, with Rev. Doug Murray officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Wood Cemetery, Hertford, with Swindell Funeral Home of Hertford in charge of arrangements.
