Annie Mallie McPherson Dowd, 98, formerly of Holiday Street, died Sept. 27, 1994, in Portsmouth.
Mrs. Dowd, a native of Sanford, N.C., had formerly owned and operated a catering business. She was the oldest member of Park View Baptist Church and was a life member of the Portsmouth Woman's Club and the Portsmouth Garden Club. She was the widow of Walter T. Dowd Sr., and was preceded in death by her two sons, Walter T. Dowd Jr. and William W. Dowd.
Survivors include her daughter, Elizabeth M. Phillips of Chesapeake; two daughters-in-law, Marie P. Dowd and Louise S. Dowd, both of Portsmouth; five grandchildren, Ann Dowd Westerman of Vienna, Va., Anita Morris Wall of Portsmouth, Annette Morris Paquette of St. Lambert, Quebec, Robert W. Dowd of Jackson, Miss., and Kathryn Phillips Bartlett of Chesapeake; and six great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Park View Baptist Church by Dr. Roy DeBrand and Dr. Thomas J. Powers. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Foster Funeral Home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today and also at her daughter's home, 3523 Towne Point Road, Apt. 102, Chesapeake, Va., 23321.
Memorial donations may be made to the Park View Baptist Church Memorial Fund or to a charity of choice.
