John Henry Thrower, 70, of the 1400 block of Cavalier Blvd., died Sept. 25, 1994, in Bon Secours (Maryview Nursing Care Center, Suffolk).
Mr. Thrower was born in Vance, S.C. He had retired from the Portsmouth Naval Hospital as a food service supervisor after 38 years. He was a member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church and was a U.S. Navy veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Sylvonia Thrower of Portsmouth; three daughters, Brenda Jones of Chesapeake, Rosita Thrower of Tampa, Fla. and Rena Peacock of Dale City, Va.; two sons, John Henry Thrower Jr. of Suffolk and Lorenzo Matthew Thrower of Alexandria, Va.; a sister, Leola Jenkins of Brooklyn, N.Y.; three brothers, Willie Thrower of Charleston, S.C., Cornelius Thrower of Middletown, Ohio and Brantley Thrower of the Bronx, N.Y.; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Mount Carmel Baptist Church by the Rev. E.T. Knight. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. Viewing will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday in Corprew Funeral Home. The body will be taken to the church at 10 a.m. Friday.
