The upstart Bayside field hockey team remained unbeaten Tuesday with a dominating 3-1 victory over First Colonial in Virginia Beach.
The Marlins improved to 6-0 overall and 2-0 in the Beach District. First Colonial dropped to 1-2 in district play, 2-2 overall.
First Colonial got on the board first, with Jamie Kollar sending in a loose ball in front of Bayside keeper Jen Walter with about 12:30 left in the first half.
But from there, it was all Bayside.
The Marlins tied the score two minutes after Kollar's goal when Dawn Bell nailed in a shot from deep in the scoring circle on a penalty corner situation. Kay Anderson started the play from the left side and Quan Nim stopped the feed for Bell's shot.
Bell made it 2-1 seven minutes into the second half when she took an inside pass from Nim and smashed it past Patriots keeper Ana Azizikhani.
Nim rounded out the scoring on a pass from Bell on a penalty corner feed from Anderson.
Bayside's speed was evident throughout the contest, as the Marlins built a 14-1 advantage in penalty corners.
``We have good speed and good passing,'' Nim said.
Bell took advantage of a Patriots defense that seemed early to key more on Nim.
``I think they probably were,'' Bell said. ``I felt like I was a little more open than usual.''
