Two Rottweilers that attacked a 4-year-old girl will be destroyed, a judge ruled Tuesday.
General District Judge William C. Andrews dismissed the argument that there was no ``direct identification'' of the dogs as those involved in the attack on Dallas Nichols and ordered that Bear, 105 pounds, and Rock, 90 pounds, be euthanized.
Dallas was pinned to the ground and bitten repeatedly by the dogs at a playground near her home on Aug. 22. She needed 50 stitches to close puncture wounds on her head, neck, arm and leg.
``There is no question that this was a vicious, unprovoked attack,'' Andrews said.
Terry Jones, the dogs' owner, testified that the dogs had never behaved violently in the past and asked that they be sent to live with his grandmother on her 9-acre property in Williamsburg. Jones refused to comment on the verdict or on the possibility of an appeal.
If no appeal is filed, the dogs will be euthanized in 10 days, said Gene Falls, director of the Peninsula SPCA. by CNB
