SUFFOLK YULE ORNAMENTS OFFERED THIS YEAR'S EDITION CARRIES A SKETCH OF THE CITY'S OLD HIGH SCHOOL. IT COSTS $5.

Christmas is less than 100 days away, and while most of us are still thinking school supplies and jack-o'-lanterns, the Pilot Club of Suffolk is far ahead of us.

The club is once again selling collectible Christmas ornaments, limited editions that are unique to Suffolk.

Undertaken as a 10-year fund-raiser for the Pilot Club, the sale offers a different ornament annually. All 10 ornaments are glass balls, each printed with a scene significant to Suffolk.

This year's ornament, the fourth in the series, is a red ball bearing a white imprint of the old Suffolk High School.

``We usually have a lot of repeat sales, but this year we have had a lot of new interest because it is Suffolk High School,'' said club member Tracy Carr. Much of the interest has come from Suffolk High School alumni, she added.

The previous three editions have featured the Suffolk city seal, the old city market and the old courthouse. Only the first edition, the ball bearing the city seal, has been sold out. A limited number of the other two ornaments, as well as this year's edition, are selling for $5 each at Art Jones Travel Service, Mirror Image Hairstyling, Golden Corral and Nansemond Drug Co.

The Pilot Club of Suffolk is part an international service organization founded in 1931 and includes more than 19,000 members in 576 clubs. Charitable efforts focus on elderly and disabled people with special attention to victims of brain disorders such as Alzheimer's disease. The Pilot Club of Suffolk has 53 members.

Proceeds from the ornament sale will benefit local projects for the disabled as well as the Lifeline program at Obici Hospital. MEMO: For more information on the Pilot Club of Suffolk ornaments, call Tracy
