CORDUS AVRIPAS

Cordus ``Rip'' Avripas, 75, of the 1800 block of Goldeneye Drive, a retired mail carrier, died Sept. 27, 1994, in Chesapeake.

Mr. Avripas was born in Herrin, Ill., and was a member of Bethany Freewill Baptist Church. He was retired from the U.S. Post Office and was also a part-time employee at Farm Fresh. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served in World War II and the Korean War. He belonged to the Masonic AF & AM Lodge (NU)1047 of Royalton, Ill., Khedive Temple of the Shrine and Scottish Rite Bodies of Norfolk, and Order of the Eastern Star (NU)45, Elizabeth, also in Norfolk.

Survivors include his wife, Yalaunda Harris Avripas; a daughter, Diann Boutwell of Chesapeake; a son, Joel Lee Avripas of Ashland, Va.; a sister, Floreine Hamilton of St. Clair Shores, Mich.; a sister-in-law, Sufrona Harris of Mount Vernon, Ill.; three brothers, James Avripas of Utica, Mich., Tony Avripas of Herrin, Ill., and Spiro Avripas of Livona, Mich.; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Masonic rites and military honors will be accorded at the graveside. Altmeyer Funeral Home, Norfolk, is handling arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Yalaunda Avripas, 1801 Goldeneye Drive, Chesapeake, Va. 23320.
