Broadway costume designer William Ivey Long has been appointed scenic designer for The Lost Colony by the Roanoke Island Historical Association.
In his new role, Long will be responsible for planning and implementing a cohesive design approach to all the scenic elements of the production, including props, sets and costumes.
Long, who has served as The Lost Colony's costume designer since 1987, is a two-time Tony award-winning designer with numerous Broadway credits to his name.
In the early 1970s, Long studied art history at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, then received his degree in set design from the Yale School of Drama.
Long's family has been associated with The Lost Colony since 1940, when his father served as props master, then director, of the outdoor drama.
His mother worked in the costume shop and appeared on stage as Queen Elizabeth I. Long also appeared on stage at The Lost Colony in various children's roles. by CNB
