A VERY LONG WALK

A relay at Portside lasting 24 hours - from 10 a.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. Sunday - to benefit Easter Seals raised $21,500.73.

Teams of 20 participants took turns walking, running or rolling their wheelchairs on a track in a continuous relay fashion, with each person completing one mile from eight to 12 times during the 24-hour period.

When they were not on the relay course, teams competed in volleyball, a mini Olympics and a Trivial Pursuit tournament. Other events included a team fashion show at 9 p.m., movies at 10 p.m., ghost stories at midnight, Pictionary at 1 a.m. and poker for peanuts at 2 a.m. A sunrise worship service was held at 7 a.m. Sunday, followed by breakfast at 8 a.m.

Participating teams included Continental Airlines; Eagle 97.3; Hampton Roads Easter Seal Board of Directors; Decker, Cardon, Thomas, Weintraub; Tabb Titans; Century 21 Brokers Council; Century 21 Greg Garrett; L.P.
