Howard Cee Cary Sr., 65, of the 2400 block of Des Moines Ave., died Sept. 28, 1994, in his residence.
Mr. Cary was born in Ivor, Va., and was retired from the U.S. Air Force after 20 years of service. He also retired from NADEP after 22 years. He was a member of New St. Thomas Baptist Church, where he served on the Board of Christian Education, was a Sunday School teacher, member of the Senior Choir, founder of the Food for Hungry Ministry and was a Deacon. He was president of the Tidewater Deacon & Deaconess Association.
Survivors include his wife, Janice R. Cary; four daughters, Doryce Cherry, Sherelle Smith, Katrina Perry and Andrea Sawyer; three sons, Howard C. Cary Jr., Derek G. Cary and Barry D. Cary; two sisters, Virginia Jackson and Rosetta Brinkley; three brothers, Chester Lee Edwards, Elias Edwards and Bobby Edwards; and 15 grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Zion Bethel United Church of Christ by the Rev. Theodore Myrick. Burial will be in Rosewood Memorial Park, Virginia Beach. The family will be at New St. Thomas Baptist Church today from 6 to 7 p.m. The body will be in church at 1:30 p.m. Saturday. Fisher Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
