A Suffolk police officer was listed in ``very stable'' condition Thursday after being struck by a pickup truck during a routine traffic stop.
Suffolk Officer Dean M. Smith, 29, had directed another vehicle to the side of U.S. 460 when the accident occurred.
According to police, Smith was standing by the side of the other car when a pickup truck driven by a Chesapeake man struck the rear of his patrol car, hit the second car, then hit Smith. The accident occurred about 2 p.m. near the Pruden Vocational-Technical Center.
The driver of the pickup truck, identified by police as David Joseph Ingler, 32, of Chesapeake, was taken to Obici Hospital, where he was treated and released.
No charges have been filed.
