Oliver North, a man of courage and honor, served his country well during the conflict in Central America. Let's not forget that the communist government in Central America was removed, partly due to North's efforts. It will be difficult to repay him for that service.
At the time, the majority of Congress tied the hands of those who wanted to help Central America regain its freedom. Those arrogant, ultraliberal congressmen who denied us victory over communism in Vietnam and who tied Oliver North's hands in Central America are now working overtime to deny North victory in Virginia.
To those who believed the anti-moral, liberal press, I would urge them to go to Nicaragua. There, the freedom fighters and their families would tell them with conviction that Oliver North is a hero!
Oliver North is a man of great integrity and will be a ``people's'' senator. It was North who went to the Middle East to save the lives of American hostages like David Jacobsen. It was North who made it possible to capture the cruise-ship hijackers in the Middle East. Those hijackers threw Leon Klinghoffer, an elderly man in a wheelchair, overboard.
I am a golf professional in Chesapeake and a combat veteran of World War II. I proudly support North for Senate in 1994. Unfortunately, today good character traits like loyalty, faithfulness, courage in combat, patriotism, hard work and consistency are negatives for North. Why? I guess it's because he believes in God. Frankly, I have more respect for him than I do for many of those for whom politics has been a career.
