The nation's first nuclear-powered carrier successfully completed three days of sea trials Friday, returning to its Norfolk pier for the first time in 4 years after undergoing the most complex overhaul and refueling undertaken at Newport News Shipbuilding.
Docking at its new home in Norfolk, the carrier Enterprise was greeted by more than 1,000 well-wishers, family members and friends.
The ship and its 3,500-member crew will be part of the Atlantic Fleet. It previously was assigned to the Pacific Fleet.
It is scheduled to begin flight operations this month. by CNB
