MAN STABBED IN ROBBERY ATTEMPT BY OCCUPANT OF CAR HE HAD HIT

A motorist whose car hit a vehicle that had stopped suddenly ahead of it was stabbed Friday by an occupant of the other car.

The 29-year-old man, whose name is being withheld by state police, was on an interchange of Interstate 564 at Granby Street about 11 a.m. when the incident occurred.

The man told police that a car in front of him stopped suddenly and that his car ran into it. Immediately, two men got out of the vehicle. One had a gun; the other, carrying a knife, demanded money.

When the driver said he had no cash with him, the man with the knife stabbed him. The attackers returned to their car and sped off.

The injured man first tried to drive himself but feared he would lose consciousness. He started to walk to a hospital and a passer-by stopped to offer help. He was taken to a medical clinic at the Norfolk Naval Base.

State police are looking for three men, all described as black and in their early 20s. They were in a light blue, late 1970s-model Chevrolet Nova with rust spots and Virginia license plates.

Anyone with information is asked to call Trooper J. Overbeck at 455-3980.
