EDUCATION BRIEFS

CHEERS PROGRAM: Children and Homework, Encouraging Excellence and Really Succeeding, a free program for parents, sponsored by the Holland Road Elementary School PTA, will be held Tuesday, from 7 to 8 p.m. in the school library. School psychologists Beverly McMahon and Karen Wilburn will provide materials and review the top 10 ways parents can support good study habits in their children.

IN-SCHOOL POSTAL SERVICE RETURNS: Point O' View Elementary School celebrated the return of its in-school postal service with a special program on Friday.

A room has been designated as the post office, mailboxes have been strategically placed throughout the building and school corridors have been transformed into city streets and avenues.

SECRETARY HONORED: Carol Briley, secretary for guidance and student records in the School Administration Building, was recently presented with a certificate and letter of appreciation for her help in securing transcripts and other information for former students enlisting in the Navy.

Briley responds to requests from former students to send their school records to the Navy, other branches of the service, schools and prospective employers.

``Mrs. Briley has always been so helpful and cooperative when I've had questions or needed records,'' said Petty Officer 2nd Class Brian L. Verrette, a recruiter at the Navy's Pembroke office, who delivered the certificate and letter. ``It was an informal presentation, but we wanted to let her know how much we appreciate her work.''
