LAW

The law firm of Kaufman & Canoles in Norfolk appointed Megan E. Burns and L. Allan Parrott Jr. associates. Both will practice in the firms litigation section.

Burns was a law clerk for the Honorable Rebecca Beach Smith, Judge of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, and Parrott was a law clerk with the Honorable Robert F. Chapman, Senior Judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit in Columbia, S.C.

Robert F. Haley II joined the law firm of Joynes and Bieber in Virginia Beach. His practice will focus on personal injury claims. Haley, who has practiced law for the past 27 years, was previously with Chandler, Franklin and O'Bryan.

SALES

nView Corp. strengthens its worldwide sales operations: nView Corp. in Newport News appointed Charles L. Ball vice president of sales for the Americas and promoted N. Wayne Bailey to senior vice president of international sales and marketing. Bailey will also serve as managing director of nView International, BVBA. nView said the appointment of these two executives is the initial step in its new sales and marketing initiative to expand its market share of projection products.

Ball will be responsible for all sales and business development activities in the United States, Latin America and Canada. He most recently was director of sales and marketing management development for Ortho Biotech Inc., a Johnson & Johnson company in Raritan, N.J.

Bailey's responsibilities will include all sales, business development and related sales promotion activities in the Eastern Hemisphere, primarily Europe and Asia. He joined nView in 1993 as director of European sales at the company's subsidiary, nView International, BVBA, in Brussels, Belgium. Bailey was transferred to nView's headquarters and assigned the task of reorganizing the company's U.S. sales activities. He has returned to Brussels and will develop new business opportunities in other European locations and in the Pacific Rim. Before joining nVIEW, Bailey was director of international sales and marketing for ACU-PATH Technologies, a computer software company.

nView Corp., based in Newport News, designs and manufactures projection products that incorporate liquid crystal display technology to project enlarged images from computer and video sources for group viewing.

BANKING

Commerce Bank in Portsmouth has expanded its special mortgage products department that began operations this year. Patricia A. Henkle is vice president of this expanded mortgage loan division.

New mortgage loan originators in the special mortgage products department are Lyn Wallace Wapner and Lynn Rae Doran. Wapner was executive vice president with Residential Home Funding Corp. in Newport News, and Doran was a loan officer/originator with American Industrial Loan Association in Virginia Beach.

The bank's new program has developed special opportunities for first and second mortgages for people who do not qualify according to industry guidelines.

John R. Canant was promoted to building operations officer for the community and mass market retail segments with Signet Bank in Norfolk. He handles the facilities and maintenance for the bank's branches in Hampton Roads, on the Eastern Shore and in Northern Virginia.

Canant joined the bank in 1985 as a maintenance mechanic. He has been a construction inspector and maintenance supervisor. MEMO: Executive Track reports executive and management changes.
