ELOISE M. ROBERTS

Eloise May Barnett Roberts, the daughter of Nellie P. Barnett and the late Everett E. Barnett Sr., died Oct. 1, 1994, in Ablemarle Hospital, Elizabeth City, N.C.

She attended the public schools of Barbour County, W.Va. Her bachelor of Science Degree was obtained from West Virginia State College. She received her Master's degree in counseling from Marshall University and her Ph.D from Ohio State University. She devoted her services beyond the call of duty to her students and Elizabeth City State University for more than 21 years. Mrs. Roberts was the first female Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs in the University of North Carolina System. She was employed as a professor in the Division of Education.

She is survived by her husband, Andrew Lee Roberts of Elizabeth City, N.C.; her mother, Mrs. Nellie P. Barnett of Philippi, W.Va.; two daughters, Daniell Hawkins of Raleigh, N.C. and Lavern Blassengale of Plainfield, N.J.; two grandsons, Lamar and Devin Hawkins; four sisters, Nettie Harris of Philippi, W.Va., Cornelia Comedy of Columbus, Ohio, Kathy Davis of Martinsburg, W.Va., and Carolyn Davis of Reston, Va.; one brother, Everett E. Barnett Jr. of Cincinnati, Ohio. She will be missed by other relatives, students and a multitude of friends.

Funeral services for Mrs. Roberts will be Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. at Olive Branch Missionary Baptist Church, 510 Brooks Ave., Elizabeth City, N.C. The body will be placed in the church at noon Tuesday. Burial will follow in Westlawn Memorial Park, Elizabeth City. Blair Funeral Service, Edenton, in charge of arrangements.
