HIGH SCHOOL GOLF TOURNAMENTS GET SWINGING TODAY

The Southeastern, Beach and Eastern districts begin their postseason golf tournaments today at three different courses.

The eight-team Southeastern District will be at Sleepy Hole this morning teeing off at 7:30 a.m. The Southeastern tournament moves to Stumpy Lake Golf Course on Tuesday, also beginning at 7:30. Great Bridge has already qualified for regional play as the district's regular-season champion.

Individually, Great Bridge's Robbie Twine and Alton Todd, Deep Creek's Chris Huntsinger, Western Branch's Heather Jeffries and Churchland's Robert Davis are favored. The district sends three teams and five other individuals to the Eastern Region tournament.

In the Beach District, Cox won the regular-season title. With 10 teams overall, the Beach sends three teams and seven individuals to the regionals.

Salem's Kevin Miller, Tallwood's Jack Shick and Cox's Troy Cummings and Matthew Paulson enter as the favorites as the Beach plays at Bow Creek today and Red Wing Lake Golf Course Tuesday, both days beginning at noon.

In the Eastern District, Granby has already qualified for regional play and one team spot and three individual spots are up for grabs. The Eastern plays at Ocean View today at 1 p.m. and Tuesday at Stumpy Lake at 1. Granby's Jason Copeland, Gary Crutcher and Cameron Tenney and Maury's David Nowitsky are the favorites. by CNB
