THOMAS B. TURNER

Thomas Barnes Turner, 74, died Sunday, Oct. 2, 1994.

A lifelong resident of Greensville County, Mr. Turner served with the 29th Division, 116th Infantry, Company M. He was wounded on the beaches of Normandy and later returned to serve 34 years with the Virginia National Guard as master sergeant. Mr. Turner was best known in his role as an investigator with the Virginia ABC board, retiring in 1985 after 39 years of service. He was a former director of Emporia Chapter of the Fraternal Order of Police, a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5371, American Legion Post 46 and a member of St. Andrew's United Methodist Church. Mr. Turner was preceded in death by a son, Thomas B. Turner Jr.

He is survived by his wife, Lila Lee Ligon Turner; his son, Russell C. Turner; his daughter, Susan L. Turner; five grandchildren, Rob Turner, Chuck Kasper, Jennifer Alltop, Matt Turner and Kelsey Turner; his brother, Warren Turner, and two sisters, Annie Wendell and Sally Marie Turner.

His remains rest at Owen Funeral Home, 303 S. Halifax Road, Jarratt, Va., where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today and where a funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday. Interment will be in Emporia Cemetery.
