CLEO F. SHAWN

Cleo Francis Shawn, 52, of Virginia Beach, died peacefully Oct. 1, at Virginia Beach General Hospital. A Norfolk native, Mr. Shawn was the son of the late Walter Lee and Virginia P. Shawn.

Mr. Shawn, a retired executive, had owned and operated Graphic Arts Machinists Inc. from 1979-1990. He was vice president of Holladay Tyler Printing Co. from 1977-1979 and was general manager of Kaufmann Graphics in the early '70s. He had been a tug boat captain in the Navy for six years.

He was a member of Goshen Baptist Church, Fredericksburg, Va., and had been serving the Lord at Open Door Chapel since his return to the Virginia Beach area in 1990. He actively supported and worked for the American Tinnitus Association.

Survivors include his wife, Sandra B. Shawn; two daughters, Heather Lee Shawn of Virginia Beach and Holly Meadows of Washington, D.C.; three sons, Brian Shawn of Indianapolis, Ind., Andy Shawn of Chicago, Ill., and Keith Shawn of Virginia Beach. He is also survived by three sisters, Rae Harmon of Richmond, Frankee Miller of Chesapeake and Barbara Everett of Virginia Beach; two grandchildren; two daughters-in-law; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A memorial service to honor Mr. Shawn and to glorify God will take place at 7 p.m. today at Open Door Chapel. Friends and relatives are welcomed. Rev. Fritz Stegemann will officiate the service at the Chapel. A private burial will be held Wednesday.

Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Neck Road, is handling the arrangements. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Norfolk Christian School scholarship fund for needy children, 225 Thole St., Norfolk.
