John L. ``Mock'' Mock Sr., 74, of the 1700 block of Willoughby Ave., a retired tractor trailer driver, died Oct. 2, 1994, in his residence.
Mr. Mock, a native of Advance, N.C., was the son of Robert L. Sr and Viola Mason-Mock. He retired 17 years ago from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth after 25 years of service and was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in World War II. He was a member of Mount Zion Community Church, Norfolk, and had been very active in all aspects of church life. For many years he was active in Garretts Community Church before becoming one of the founding pioneers of Mount Zion Community Church. He was considered the father of the church.
Survivors include his wife, Ethel Bell Mock; four daughters, Virginia Johnson, JoAnne Knight, Priscilla Snipes, all of Norfolk, and Jacqueline Price of Newark, N.J.; three sons, John Lewis Mock Jr. of Norfolk, Theodore Mock of Portsmouth and Aaron Owens of Lexington, N.C.; 17 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A funeral will be conducted at noon Saturday in Mount Zion Community Church, 2345 E. Indian River Road, by the Rev. Willie McNair. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park. Viewing will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Friday at Riddick Funeral Service, where the family will be from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday. The family will also be at his residence.
