Senior Chief Fred Andrew Henning Jr., U.S. Navy (Ret.), 66, of the 1100 block of Glenside Drive, died Oct. 3, 1994, in his home.
Mr. Henning was a native of Lawrence, Mass. He was the son of the late Fred and Gertrude Henning. Fred was a Presbyterian. The family are founding members of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church. He retired from the Navy after 30 years, and also from civil service. He was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association Branch (NU)166, Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge (NU)1198, a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 392 and the Tidewater Lost Chord Club. Fred was an avid golfer and belonged to the Swindlers Golf Association, NAS Oceana and the Old Boys Golf Association.
He was preceded in death by his son, Paul S. Henning of Rushville, Ind., on Aug. 15, 1990.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Mary A. Moody Henning of Virginia Beach; a son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Denise Hanning of Norfolk; daughter-in-law, Teresa Henning and granddaughter, Heather Henning of Rushville, Ind.; and four grandsons, Bruce Jr., Christopher, Stephen and Robert of Norfolk. He was predeceased by his brother, P. Richard Henning.
A funeral Mass will be held Thursday, Oct. 6, 1994 at 11 a.m., at Holy Spirit Catholic Church by Father Thomas Caroluzza. Burial, with full military honors, will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens immediately following the service.
The family will receive friends at Kellum Funeral Home, Pleasant Hall/Kempsville Chapel, from 7 to 9 p.m. today. An Order of the Moose ceremony will be held at 7:30 p.m.
The family requests that donations be made to Tidewater Lost Chord Club, c/o American Cancer Society, 2730 Ellsmere Ave., Norfolk, Va. 23513.
