Sam C. Barranco III, Ph.D., 55, a cell biologist specializing in cancer research, died Oct. 3, 1994, in Virginia Beach.
Born in Beaumont, Texas, he attended Texas A & M University in 1960, majoring in zoology, receiving a B.S. degree, and in 1962, a M.S. degree in radiation biology. He also attended Johns Hopkins University in 1969, receiving his Ph.D. in cellular radiobiology.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Barranco; two daughters, Rhys Lutsky of State College, Pa. and son-in-law, Michael Lutsky, and Melissa Barranco of Alexandria, Va.; his father, Sam Barranco Jr. of Beaumont, Texas; and a brother, Victor Barranco of Liberty, Texas. He was preceded in death by his mother, Leola Barranco.
A funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Nicholas Catholic Church by the Rev. James M. Noto and Dr. Brian K. Dill. Burial will be in Princess Anne Memorial Park. The family will be at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Neck Chapel, from 7 to 9 p.m. today.
