WILLIAM A. PALMER

William Allison Palmer, 76, of the 2800 block of Shore Drive, died Oct. 2, 1994, in Chesapeake.

Mr. Palmer was born in Martinez, Calif. He was a veteran of World War II, a submariner, and was retired after 20 years of unwavering dedication to his country. During World War II, he served on the USS Silversides and the USS Amberjack and completed several war patrols. Subsequent to that, he retired as supervisory quality assurance engineer for the Navy as the Supervisor of Shipbuilding, Newport News.

He was also retired from Bayside Hospital as plant engineer. He was instrumental in organizing the Tidewater Chapter of the Submarine Veterans of WWII and served as their first president. In addition, he was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association.

Survivors include his wife, Margo T. Palmer; a daughter, Arlene Palmer Ingram of Virginia Beach; a son, William Allison Palmer Jr. of Chapel Hill, N.C.; a brother, Edward Lyle Palmer of California; four grandchildren, Robert Randolph Palmer, John William Ingram, Allison Anne Ingram and William Allison Palmer III; and several cousins, including Dolan Evans of Sebastopol, Calif.

A memorial service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Neck Chapel, by the Rev. L. Lawson Byrd, chaplain. Burial will be at a later date.

The family will receive friends at the home of John and Arlene Ingram from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday and also following the service on Sunday.
