An Elizabeth City State University program to improve housing conditions and drug education will continue its work through a second $500,000 grant from the federal government.
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development awarded the grant recently as part of a $13.4 million package for 28 historically black colleges and universities nationwide.
Morris Autry, who directs ECSU's Community Development Program, said the group is finishing projects from an earlier HUD grant, such as helping elderly and low-income residents repair their homes and providing home ownership opportunities for low-income people.
The program also has provided seminars on fair housing practices and drug awareness, Autry said. by CNB
