A lawsuit that has plagued the school system for years may finally be coming to an end.
The School Board on Tuesday night voted unanimously to settle, for an undetermined amount, a suit filed against it by E. Carlton Bowyer, who was ousted as superintendent four years ago.
The board authorized Superintendent Sidney L. Faucette to work out the details with school system attorneys.
``You will see it come to a conclusion very quickly,'' Faucette said.
Faucette could offer no further details of the settlement negotiations.
Bowyer's lawsuit sought $500,000. He alleged that the School Board violated his rights by firing him just three weeks after giving him a vote of confidence.
In August, Bowyer had restated his determination not to settle the lawsuit.
Bowyer was ousted in 1990, a little over a year after he took the job. Parents and teachers had complained bitterly about curriculum reforms he instituted. by CNB
