Two Boykins residents were killed and a third was critically hurt Tuesday in a two-car crash at the intersection of Routes 58 and 35, state police said.
Claudio Morales-Colin Jr., 39, and Mary A. Haines, 33, died in the 9 a.m. crash that happened when a Franklin man, Lonnie C. Hinton, 45, drove his Chevrolet Blazer through a red light and struck Morales-Colin's car broadside, police said.
The collision ejected Morales-Colin from his car and trapped a 22-year-old passenger, Judith Powers, inside. She was airlifted to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with critical injuries, said state police spokeswoman Tammy Van Dame.
A fourth person in Morales-Colin's Chevrolet, Steve Branch, 29, was treated at a hospital for broken bones, Van Dame said. Hinton was also treated at a hospital.
Van Dame said none of the occupants of Morales-Colin's vehicle wore seat belts.
