Members of a fraternity at Old Dominion University are on a mission to raise both money and awareness.
Starting Monday, and lasting for the whole week, Pi Kappa Phi fraternity members will be holding a fund-raiser to benefit the handicapped. The fraternity is working with PUSH America, a national organization.
``Our chapter is really big on it,'' said Neal Boone, an ODU senior and PUSH chairman for Pi Kappa Phi. ``The fraternity brothers are behind it.''
Fraternity members will be pushing each other around in wheelchairs between 11 a.m and 2 p.m., Boone said. In addition, an information table will be set up in the student center. Pi Kappa Phi's goal for the fund-raiser is $1000, and all proceeds go directly to PUSH America.
Boone said the fund-raiser is a ``symbolic gesture'' designed to raise money and inform the public. Money raised will be used toward building handicap ramps and access to playgrounds.
``It's an amazing sight,'' Boone said. ``You don't see research, but you can see a playground being built.'' by CNB
