The Roman Empire is making a comeback at Maury High.
Sally Roman and sister Katie Roman were in on both goals Wednesday as the Commodores downed Granby, 2-0, in a key Eastern District field hockey game.
Maury improved to 6-5 overall, 4-0 in the Eastern District while Granby fell to 2-3, 1-2.
Sally Roman assisted on a slap shot by Meredith Whibley from the top of the circle on a penalty corner with two seconds left in the opening half to put the Commodores on the board.
Then four minutes into the second half, Katie Roman set up Sally Roman with a crossing pass for a 2-0 lead. It was Sally Roman's eighth goal of the season.
Maury coach Patricia Panzik has been experimenting with different lineups in an effort to boost Maury's scoring and might have stumbled across the right combination Wednesday.
``We are dominating every game we're in, but not scoring enough,'' Panzik said. ``This was better.''
The Comets' best chance to cut into the lead came on a rush up field when Onawa Carter's running shot hit the left post.
``It might have been different if we'd cut it to 2-1,'' said first-year Granby coach Amy Tomasulo. ``I keep stressing to the team that the post is our friend, but it wasn't today.''
