JOSEPH A. BROWN JR.

Joseph A. Brown Jr. of the 1900 block of Laigh Road, a retired boiler maker, died Oct. 4, 1994, in his home.

Mr. Brown was born in Portsmouth and was retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard after five years. He was a member of New First Baptist Church Taylorsville in Portsmouth.

Survivors include his wife, Edna B. Brown; three daughters, Shelby J. Brown of Garden Grove, Calif., Sheryll Ann Cummings of Northridge, Calif., and Chanta M. Moore of Chesapeake; three sons, Joseph A. Brown III of Orange, Calif., Kevin D. Reid of Washington, D.C. and Joseph D. Reid Jr. of Portsmouth; his mother, Willie Inez Brown of Portsmouth; two sisters, Leona Earl and Vanessa Claytor, both of Portsmouth; and nine grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in New First Baptist Church Taylorsville by the Rev. T.M. Steele. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Chesapeake. Viewing will be this afternoon at Corprew Funeral Home. The body will be taken to the church at noon Saturday.
