Merritt V. Reese, 76, of the 500 block of Burleigh Ave., died Oct. 5, 1994, in a Morgantown, W.Va., hospital.
Mr. Reese was born in Lewiston-Woodville, N.C., son of Tom and Eva Reese. He was retired from C & P Telephone Co. after 35 years. He was a member of Central Congregational Christian Church; former president of Local (NU)2202 Communication Workers of America; member of The Pioneers of America and Atlantic Masonic Lodge (NU)2, AF & AM; and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, 740th Railroad Battalion.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Lewis Reese; a daughter and son-in-law, Jacquelyne R. Owens and Berton E. Owens Jr. of Hampton; a sister, Ruby Tayloe of Suffolk; three brothers, Wilson Reese of San Diego, Calif., Ramoth Reese of Spruce Pine, N.C., and Bradley Reese of Norfolk; and grandchildren, Berton E. Owens III and Rebecca Rhea Owens.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, by Dr. Earl L. Boyette. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today.
