Melvin E. Askew of the 400 block of Kingsley Lane, a retired truck driver, died Oct. 7, 1994, in a local hospital.
Mr. Askew was born in Norfolk and was a member of Mount Gilead Baptist Church. He was retired from Sampson Paint & Construction Company and had served in the U.S. Air Force and Army.
Survivors include his wife, Little L. Askew; a son, Todd Askew of Washington, D.C.; a brother, Sherman Askew of Norfolk; four grandchildren; an aunt, Annie Belle Stancil; an uncle, John Askew; and a host of relatives and friends.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday in Mount Gilead Baptist Church by the Rev. Byron Collins. The family will assemble at 877 Marrietta Ave. Graves Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
