Carol Wanamaker Pekrun, 59, died Saturday, October 8, at a Norfolk hospital. Mrs. Pekrun was born in Bedford, Ohio, and was a public school teacher for the Dare County School System. She was a member of the Manteo Women's Club and attended Mount Olivet United Methodist Church. She is the daughter of Letha Shippy Wanamaker of Manteo and the late Carl Wanamaker and the wife of Kenneth W. Pekrun Sr. of the home.
Besides her husband and mother, she is survived by one daughter, Randi J. Pekrun of Dunn, NC; one son, Kenneth W. Pekrun, Jr. of Manteo, NC.; one sister, Marcia Stoneburner of Kansas City, KS. and one granddaughter Melissa Pekrun of Manteo, NC.
A memorial service will be held at Twiford's Colony Chapel on Wednesday, October 12 at 7:00 p.m. and the family will assemble at the funeral home at 6:50 p.m. Wednesday evening. The family will receive friends at the home, 215 Sir Walter Raleigh Street in Manteo Tuesday night from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Dare County Cancer Support Group.
Twiford's Colony Chapel is in charge of these arrangements.
