Richard Smith Fentress, 76, of the 900 block of Elm St., died Oct. 7, 1994, in his residence.
Mr. Fentress was born in Norfolk. He retired in 1974 as a fire chief for the U.S. Navy at Oceana Naval Air Station and was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Council 367 and was the widower of Lucille Richardson Fentress.
Survivors include a daughter, Lucille Kathleen Bryson-Miller of Virginia Beach; two sons, Richard C. Fentress of Virginia Beach and Steven P. Fentress of Powells Point, N.C.; four sisters, Mildred Webster and Teenie Cavender, both of Virginia Beach, Edna Swartz, Helen Clark, of Chesapeake; two brothers, Harry Allen Fentress and Herbert Maitland Fentress Jr. of Virginia Beach; five grandchildren, Richard P. Fentress, Annette Wood and Kathleen D. Bryson, all of Virginia Beach, Steven P. Fentress Jr. of Sierra Vista, Ariz., and Jonathan E. Fentress of Roanoke, Va.; and one great-grandson.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel, by the Rev. Joseph P. Lehman. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will be at the funeral home from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. today and at 954 Elm St. other times for visitations.
